The role of resective periodontal surgery in the treatment of furcation defects

Periodontol 2000. 2000 Feb:22:154-68. doi: 10.1034/j.1600-0757.2000.2220110.x.

Abstract

Resective therapy for the treatment of furcation defects is an essential part of the periodontal therapist's armamentarium. Root resection can successfully treat specific furcation defects that cannot be solved by other surgical and nonsurgical approaches. Complications with these resective procedures are not rare but are usually avoidable when specific endodontic, surgical and restorative guidelines are followed.
