Optimal care for children with Down syndrome in India

Abstract

Medical problems which arise in Down Syndrome are reviewed. Guidelines for management including early diagnosis of congenital heart defects, gastrointestinal anomalies, eye problems, hearing defects, thyroid dysfunction, at lanto-axial instability, prognosis for mental retardation, and role of early stimulation are provided. Prenatal diagnosis in high risk pregnancies is recommended.
