A 73-year-old man was presented with painless, bilateral swelling of the submandibular salivary glands and unilateral swelling of the parotid gland on the right side, and complaints of dry mouth. A parotid biopsy was taken and a serologic exam was carried out, resulting in the diagnosis of IgG4-related disease. IgG4-related disease is a rare systemic disorder that can cause symptoms in the head and neck region. Usually there are complaints of bilateral, painless swelling of the submandibular, parotid and/or lacrimal glands, with or without complaints of dryness of the mouth and eyes.
Een 73-jarige man presenteerde zich met een pijnloze bilaterale zwelling van de submandibulaire speekselklieren en een unilaterale subtiele zwelling van de parotis rechts en klachten van monddroogheid. Er werd een parotisbiopt genomen en serologisch onderzoek verricht waarna de diagnose IgG4-gerelateerde ziekte werd gesteld. IgG4-gerelateerde ziekte is een zeldzame systeemaandoening die ook symptomen in het hoofd-halsgebied kan geven. Meestal betreft het dan een bilaterale, pijnloze zwelling van de glandulae submandibulares, glandulae parotideae en/of de glandulae lacrimales, al dan niet in combinatie met monddroogheid en droge ogen.
