Abstract

The species originally reported as [Co(bipy)₂O₂BOH]·[B₅O₆(OH)₄]·H₃BO₃·H₃O·H₂O, a Co(II) complex containing a chelated O₂BOH^2- ligand, is shown to be [Co(bipy)₂O₂CO]·[B₅O₆(OH)₄]·H₃BO₃·2H₂O, a Co(III) complex containing a chelated O₂CO^2- ligand. This was confirmed by ¹H and ¹³C NMR, MS, IR, and an X-ray crystal structure.
