Skeletal muscle fibre morphology in childhood-insights into myopenia in pediatric liver disease

Appl Physiol Nutr Metab. 2023 Oct 1;48(10):730-750. doi: 10.1139/apnm-2023-0033. Epub 2023 Jun 15.

Abstract

Skeletal muscle morphology in healthy children changes with age. Liver disease may preferentially affect type II fibres in adults with end-stage liver disease (ESLD). More research is needed on the effects of ESLD on muscle morphology in children.

Keywords: liver disease; muscle morphology; myopenia; pediatrics; transplantation.
