Coding the COVID patient: Is it futile?

Catheter Cardiovasc Interv. 2022 Jan 1;99(1):9-10. doi: 10.1002/ccd.30035.

Abstract

  1. There are little data on outcomes for COVID‐19 patients who suffer an in‐hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA).

  2. COVID‐19 patients had a significantly higher mortality rate after an IHCA compared to historical controls, with a 5.5% survival rate to discharge.

  3. The remarkably poor outcome is likely multifactorial including the pathology of COVID‐19 as well as concerns about the logistics of resuscitating these complex patients.
