Changes in the anterior segment observed by the author in the course of treatment and follow-up of 700 premature infants are discussed. The majority of the developmental anomalies involved the cornea and the lens. They may accompany retinopathy of prematurity but can also develop when the fundus is intact. Detection of these changes may be useful for prognosis as well as for subsequent therapy.
