Tetanus in Poland in 2015

Abstract

The number of tetanus in the 21st century shows a slight declining trend, but each year there is reported fatal cases of this disease.

The purpose of the study: The purpose of the study is to provide data on epidemiological surveillance of the tetanus in 2015.

Material and methods: The study is based on the individual forms of tetanus cases submitted to the NIZP-PZH Epidemiology Department and the data of the bulletin “Infectious Diseases and Poisoning in Poland in 2015.

Results: In 2015, 12 cases of tetanus were reported. Six men and six women became ill. 4 people died after 69 years of age.

Summary and conclusions: Tetanus is an infectious disease acquired in the environment and associated with wound contamination. Infections can be prevented by vaccination. Particularly threat to life and health carries disease in the late age.
