Abstract

Nursing home residents are frail patients who experience frequent hospital admission with an increased risk for acute confusion, iatrogenic adverse events, nosocomial infections, decline in ADL and death during hospitalization. Avoidance of unnecessary admissions for this vulnerable group of patients are an important part of good quality medical care and may be effective in reducing health-care costs. Danish studies are needed in order to implement efficient interventions aiming at reducing unnecessary admissions.
