Abstract

The title compound, [Cd(C(9)H(7)O(3))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)], was synthesized under mild hydro-thermal conditions. The structure of the complex mol-ecule consists of four approximately planar fragments: two 3-(3-hy-droxyphenyl)propenoate residues and two 2,2'-bipyridine ligands [largest deviation from the least-squares planes is 0.240 (1) Å for one of 3-(3-hy-droxy-phenyl)propenoate residues]. The dihedral angles formed by the least-squares planes of the 2,2'-bipyridine ligands and the opposite 3-(3-hy-droxyphenyl)propenoate residues are 22.68 (7) and 26.47 (6)°. The CdN(4)O(4) coordination polyhedron can be described as distorted dodecahedral. Inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between carboxyl-ate O atoms and hy-droxy groups lead to the formation of chains along the a-axis direction.
