Nurses' role in liaising between patients and service providers

Nurs Manag (Harrow). 2011 Jul;18(4):24-6. doi: 10.7748/nm2011.07.18.4.24.c8591.

Abstract

Patient and public involvement (PPI) has become part of the UK's health and social care system and is promoted as a necessary component of a modern NHS that is responsive to users and works in partnership with the communities it serves. Its implementation, however, poses challenges for staff working in pressured settings, such as emergency departments. This article outlines the history of PPI and the role of nurses in ensuring the policy is championed at the front line of care.
