Parental factors associated with injudicious antibiotic-seeking behavior

Am J Health Behav. 2010 Sep-Oct;34(5):633-40. doi: 10.5993/ajhb.34.5.12.

Abstract

Objectives: To discover factors associated with parental antibiotic-seeking behavior.

Methods: Parents (N = 90) who had a child 14 years and under participated in the study.

Results: ANOVA revealed differences in scores based on parent's age and whether parents had a job in the medical profession. A stepwise linear regression revealed that parents in the medical profession and parent income were significant predictors of antibiotic-seeking behavior.

Conclusions: Parents who were younger than 30, had a high school diploma or less, did not work in the medical profession, and made less than $50,000 were more likely to follow injudicious antibiotic-seeking behavior.
