Chronotherapy of hypertension: when can be as important as with what

Rom J Intern Med. 2008;46(4):269-74.

Abstract

The "manometric" way of considering the general management of high blood pressure (HBP) must remain ancient history. The huge therapeutical armamentarium (over 75 preparations, in 9 different classes) existing nowadays allows us to select the drugs most appropriate for the comorbidities of each case. The BP level target, unanimously considered a very important element of HBP management, must not be the only one. An important and very promising possibility to improve the therapeutical efficacy of the antihypertensive treatment is chronotherapy. By using ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) it is now possible to "refine", to better "tailor" the management of hypertension.
