Community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is an established pathogen in many centres in the United States, but has yet to establish a firm foothold in Canada. In the present article, the authors report, to their knowledge, Canada's first fatal paediatric case of invasive disease due to community-associated methicillin-resistant S aureus and review its pathogenesis, epidemiology and treatment.
Le staphylocoque doré méthicillinorésistant non nosocomial est un pathogène établi dans de nombreux centres américains, mais il n’a pas encore d’emprise solide au Canada. Dans le présent article, les auteurs présentent, en autant qu’ils le sachent, le premier cas d’un enfant canadien décédé d’une maladie envahissante causée par le staphylocoque doré méthicillinorésistant non nosocomial et en examinent la pathogenèse, l’épidémiologie et le traitement.
