Abstract

The surgery of the Gastrointestinal Tract can damage the absorption and metabolism of the nutrients. We review the most important changes from the nutritional point of view, when any section of the G.I. Tract is removed; also the failure of the intestinal barrier is reviewed in critically ill patients. We discuss and suggest the Nutritional Support needed in G.I. Tract illness or surgical complications.
