As the Croatian central health facility for burns, the University Hospital of Traumatology in Zagreb treats the majority of patients with deep and extensive burns in our country. Treatment of burn patients is a complex, long and expensive process with uncertain outcomes. It is our intention to develop a modern, multidisciplinary center for these patients and offer not only intensive care and surgical treatment but also the possibility to apply biological skin substitutes, tissue banking, physical therapy during and after hospitalization, reconstructive surgery and psychological support. We have built a modern biotech laboratory using the clean room technology for the production of cultured epithelial auto- and allografts. The laboratory will be part of the tissue bank specialized for banking of bones and cultured skin.
