Abstract

Objective: Restoration of the lateral tibial condyle, a functionally intact knee joint, and correct physiological axis.

Indications: Posttraumatic cartilage and bone defect of the lateral tibial condyle too severe for reconstruction in a young patient.

Contraindications: Age > 50 years. Patellofemoral joint degeneration. Defect of the patella or lateral femoral condyle.

Surgical technique: Transplantation of the own, ipsilateral patella into the bone defect of the lateral tibial condyle.

Results: The result in one patient was found to be excellent 5 years after the accident and was good in one other patient 13 years following trauma. The third patient showed a good result 1.5 years after the accident.
