Venous thromboembolism

Radiol Technol. 2007 Mar-Apr;78(4):309-27; quiz 328-31.

Abstract

The prevalence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism is a public health care crisis in the United States today, and the imaging sciences play a crucial role in diagnosing and treating these conditions. Professional radiographers must have a thorough understanding of the risk factors, disease processes, required diagnostic studies, treatment options and prophylaxis for these conditions to provide safe, quality patient care. In addition, interventional technologists must continually expand their professional skills to keep pace with new technologies used to treat DVT.
