Clin Calcium. 2004 Sep;14(9):134-7.

Abstract

Osteoporosis is considered a major health and economic problem. Exact figures in the Philippines may not be available at this time but there are clinical informations that will tell that osteoporosis is also a major concern in the country. Lack of knowledge about the existence of the disease is a major obstacle that is slowly being addressed. Although, osteoporosis is considered a major concern of postmenopausal women, low bone mass among premenopausal women has also been observed. Early diagnosis of the disease prior to occurrence of fracture is still the best approach physicians can do at this time and researches have provided good therapeutic options that can help us minimize the impact to the society of this what we call "silent epidemic".
