5-HYDROXYTRYPTOPHAN DECARBOXYLASE IN RAT BRAIN: EFFECT OF HYPOTHALAMIC LESIONS

Science. 1965 Feb 19;147(3660):887-8. doi: 10.1126/science.147.3660.887.

Abstract

Section of the medial forebrain bundle within the lateral hypothalamus of the rat reduces the serotonin content and the 5-hydroxytryptophan decarboxylase activity in the brain. The integrity of this fiber tract appears necessary for the maintenance of normal concentrations of the amine and enzyme in the telencephalon.
