Systemic lupus erythematosus: a multisystem autoimmune disorder

Nurs Clin North Am. 2000 Mar;35(1):253-65.

Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic illness that has no known cause. As an autoimmune, inflammatory disease, it can affect various organs in different ways. Because of its fluctuating, unpredictable qualities, it requires the implementation of physiologic and psychosocial interventions that may change daily. A plan of care unique to each individual with SLE is essential to its management.
